Welcome! This is a current neighborhood watch bulletin posted 9/2009.
Forward by Officer Gary Mrotek

Good Afternoon!

I hope everyone is enjoying our extra summer weather. I just wanted to send out a quick update on something you may be able to help us with. While investigating another matter, our officers recovered several IPods, as well as a radar detector. While we have received reports of some thefts from vehicles involving IPods, most people do not record serial numbers of their belongings. As you can imagine, not having serial numbers makes it very difficult for us to reunite people with their property. Just as unfortunate is the case where a property owner does not contact the police department when something is missing from their vehicle. People don’t report thefts for a variety of reasons. The monetary loss is small, they are in a hurry and can't wait for us, they are embarrassed to be a victim of a crime, or my favorite, the don't want to bother us. I can tell you this; a theft is a theft no matter the amount. We take all thefts seriously. And while we do want to receive complaints in as timely a manner as possible, we understand you are busy. We are here 24/7, and can take your complaint anytime. Don't be embarrassed, theft can happen to anyone (even police officers, I feel your pain.) And lastly, you cannot bother us with a complaint, that’s what we do, that is why we are here.

Please, pass on to your neighbors that we have some IPods in our custody that we are sure were stolen but can't prove it yet. Any help would be appreciated. Please contact Det Fandre if you have any iformation or are a victim of an IPod theft. He can be reached during the week, from 9-5, at 262-679-4130. Please report all thefts, or other ciminal or suspicous activity as soon as possible. We can't do anything about it if we don't know about it.

Lastly, Our third shift officers made contact at several residences last night, who forgot to close their garage door for the night. This is a common occurrence, and it makes it all the easier for criminals looking for an easy opportunity to take your property. While some citizens don't like it when we wake them to tell them their door is up, most are appreciative that we are making the effort. Please remember, close and lock all doors, remove valuables and lock your cars, and leave lights on. And record those serial numbers! Together we can make a difference.
